The majority of the Aleuts live in the United States. In the CIS they are only found on the Komandor Isles.

During the eighteenth century, the Aleuts lived on the islands of the Aleut ridge and on the western coast of Alaska. Their general self designation was Unangan.

The Aleut language is close to the Eskimo language.

The main occupation was sea hunting; fishing was not so important.
